UN Begins Rebuilding Sanitation Facilities at Kabul Health Center with Japan’s Aid

The United Nations has announced the launch of a project to rebuild the sanitation facilities at the Daman Kamark Health Center in eastern Kabul, in collaboration with Japan’s International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The project is being implemented under the UN-Habitat program.
The Daman Kamark Health Center is one of the key medical facilities serving residents in eastern Kabul. The UN says that renovating the center’s toilets will significantly improve hygiene conditions for patients, visitors, and staff, highlighting that access to clean and functional sanitation is a fundamental component of public health.
According to officials from the UN-Habitat program, access to clean and usable toilets in health centers is a non-negotiable necessity and should be a priority for the relevant institutions. They noted that this project will not only enhance hygiene but also help prevent the spread of communicable diseases.
While the United Nations and international organizations continue to invest in improving health and sanitation conditions in Afghanistan, agencies affiliated with the Taliban administration have been accused of neglecting the delivery of basic healthcare services. A lack of attention to healthcare infrastructure remains a major challenge that threatens the well-being of the population.
