Taliban and Iran Discuss Mining Sector Investment and Cooperation

Abdul Rahman Qanit, Deputy for Policy and Programs at the Taliban’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, met with Alireza Beikdel, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Kabul, and his accompanying delegation to discuss the expansion of bilateral cooperation, especially in the mining sector.
The Taliban Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, in a press release, stated that the Iranian ambassador emphasized the development of joint cooperation, particularly in the mining sector. The meeting was also attended by the heads of the joint chambers of commerce of Iran and Afghanistan.
Abdul Rahman Qanit expressed that the ministry welcomes international investors interested in investing in Afghanistan’s mining industry, describing the mining sector as one of the country’s significant economic capacities.
Meanwhile, the head of the joint chamber of commerce of Iran and Afghanistan announced that Iranian companies and investors are interested in investing in Afghanistan’s mining and petroleum sectors. According to him, Iranian private companies are also ready to cooperate in training programs and the transfer of experience to Afghan engineers in the fields of mineral exploration and extraction.
Afghanistan has considerable mineral reserves, but the lack of transparency, clear legal frameworks, and necessary guarantees for investment have always been fundamental challenges in this sector; an issue the Taliban administration is expected to address clearly to gain investors’ trust.
