Norwegian Refugee Council Provides Vital Aid to 18,000 Displaced in Eastern Afghanistan

The Norwegian Refugee Council has announced that it has distributed vital aid to more than 18,000 residents affected by border clashes in eastern Afghanistan. The assistance includes temporary shelters, hygiene kits, kitchen supplies, and cash support.
In a press release issued on Saturday, June 13, the council stated that it addressed the urgent needs of families affected by border clashes between the Taliban administration and Pakistan. According to the release, at least 9,500 people received kitchen items, temporary shelter, and basic household equipment.
Additionally, hygiene kits were distributed to 7,000 people, and 2,000 others received cash assistance. The Norwegian Refugee Council did not disclose the amount of money distributed.
The humanitarian organization expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from the Norwegian government for displaced people in Afghanistan and emphasized that needs remain significant in the border areas.
Previously, on April 3, the Norwegian Refugee Council warned that thousands of families forced to flee their homes due to border clashes were living in inadequate tents without sufficient access to basic services. The council called for urgent international assistance to address the situation of these families.
While the Taliban administration has stated that over 27,000 families in nine provinces have been displaced following Pakistani attacks, aid organizations believe that effective response to the displacement crisis requires transparent planning, broad coordination, and unhindered access to those affected—challenges that have often posed serious obstacles.
