UNICEF Restores Water and Sanitation Services in 28 Health Centers in Paktia and Daikundi

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has announced the reconstruction and activation of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services in 28 health and nutrition centers in the provinces of Paktia and Daikundi, supported by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).
According to UNICEF, these centers now operate using solar energy, a move that enables the provision of higher-quality health services while also contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
UNICEF emphasized that access to clean water and safe sanitation facilities in health centers plays a fundamental role in preventing the spread of diseases and improving the health conditions of mothers and children. The lack of such facilities in many areas has long been recognized as a serious challenge for the country’s healthcare system.
Published information further indicates that the use of solar energy-based systems also helps protect groundwater resources and strengthens the sustainability of services in health centers.
