Taliban Officials Pledge to Address Nomads’ Issues in Recent Meeting

Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, the Taliban’s Minister of Refugees and Repatriation, met with Mawlawi Basir Sahibzada, the Director General for Nomadic Affairs at the Ministry of Borders, Tribes, and Nationals, to discuss delivering aid to needy nomads and refugees. According to the ministry, the meeting emphasized ways to resolve nomads’ problems and improve their living conditions.
Mawlawi Gulzarin Basir stated in the meeting that over the past decades, nomads have faced serious issues due to land confiscations, significantly restricting their living areas. He added that as a result, the nomads’ livestock economy has been damaged and there is a need to facilitate measures to improve their economic situation.
The Director General also stressed the importance of providing safe drinking water and focusing on the education of nomads’ children, while outlining several existing challenges in accessing basic services—a long-standing complaint from this community.
In response, Mawlawi Abdul Kabir appreciated the suggestions offered by the directorate and said the Taliban administration is prepared to deliver aid to migrants and internally displaced persons, assigning responsibilities to several departments. He described the proposals concerning the nomads as important and pledged to address them.
However, it remains unclear when and how these promises will be implemented. In recent years, many nomads and refugees have complained about the lack of basic services, inadequate shelter, and limited access to water and education, demanding practical and sustainable actions from the Taliban administration.
