UNICEF Launches Safe Child-Friendly Spaces for Play, Education, and Counseling in Afghanistan

UNICEF has announced that in several provinces of Afghanistan, “child-friendly spaces” have been established to provide safe environments for play, education, and psychological counseling for children. According to the agency, these centers serve as a starting point for many children in their journey toward emotional recovery.
Based on information released by UNICEF’s Afghanistan office, these spaces allow children to gather in a secure environment, learn basic educational skills, and consult with counselors if needed. The goal of establishing these centers is to reduce psychological pressure and help children gradually return to normal life.
UNICEF added that this program is being implemented with financial support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The agency did not provide further details about the exact number of these centers or the provinces covered.
In recent years, with escalating economic crises and social restrictions under Taliban rule, children in many parts of the country have faced widespread educational and psychological challenges. International organizations have consistently emphasized that creating supportive spaces for children is a vital part of the humanitarian response in Afghanistan.
