Taliban Says Security Forces Committed to Protecting All Citizens
The Taliban-run Interior Ministry said that in a meeting with a number of Shia clerics and tribal elders, it stressed the responsibility of security forces to protect the lives and property of all citizens and to provide services to all residents of the country.
According to the ministry, the talks at the meeting focused on security issues, national unity and mutual cooperation. In a statement, the Taliban said all Afghans are members of one family and that its security forces consider themselves committed to serving all citizens.
The statement said the Shia clerics and tribal elders present at the meeting praised the efforts of the security forces and described their role in strengthening the country’s security, peace and stability as important.
The Taliban-run Interior Ministry also quoted Abdul Ghaffar as saying that full cooperation would be provided and that the security, stability and progress of the country were considered a shared responsibility of all. The ministry added that security forces would continue to provide services to all ethnic groups and segments of society within the framework of Islamic principles.
The Interior Ministry is one of the key security institutions under Taliban rule and is responsible for part of the country’s internal security affairs.
