Kabul and Baku Expand Ties with Focus on Education and Economy

The Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan has announced that relations between Kabul and Baku are expanding in political, economic, and educational sectors. Hikmat Hajiyev told reporters that the two countries have a broad vision for cooperation and that these relations have grown in recent years.

According to him, Afghanistan and Azerbaijan share deep-rooted historical, cultural, and traditional ties, which provide a foundation for further collaboration. He added that relations between the peoples of the two countries, especially in education, have significant potential.

Hajiyev emphasized that the Azerbaijani embassy in Kabul is fully operational at the ambassadorial level, and government delegations from both sides regularly travel between the two countries. He also noted that several Afghan students have previously studied in Azerbaijan, and this trend continues.

Meanwhile, Abdul Latif Nazari, Deputy Minister for Professional Affairs at the Taliban’s Ministry of Economy, welcomed the improving relations between the two countries and stated that the Taliban administration seeks to expand political, diplomatic, economic, and trade relations with countries worldwide. He described the development of cooperation with Azerbaijan as beneficial for both nations.

This comes after last year the Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan visited Kabul and discussed various issues with Taliban officials. The Taliban administration is emphasizing the expansion of foreign relations despite ongoing challenges related to international legitimacy and wide-ranging internal restrictions, especially concerning citizens’ rights, as it strives to strengthen its political position through regional engagements.
