Taliban Intelligence Shuts Down Bamyan Radio Broadcasts

Local sources in Bamyan province confirm that the Taliban’s intelligence directorate has halted broadcasts of Bamyan Radio and sealed the media outlet’s building. According to these sources, intelligence forces entered the radio station’s office on Friday and stopped its operations without providing any official explanation.
A source told 8am newspaper on Wednesday, May 20, that intelligence agents, after entering the radio building, closed its gates and did not allow the broadcasts to continue. So far, the Taliban authorities in Bamyan have not commented on the reasons for this action.
Bamyan Radio was considered one of the longstanding audio media outlets in the province, broadcasting diverse programs covering events and social issues from various areas of Bamyan. The radio held a recognized position among local residents.
The suspension of this media outlet’s operations occurs amid ongoing restrictions imposed by the Taliban administration on the media following their re takeover of Afghanistan in 2021. During this period, numerous cases of censorship, broadcast suspensions, and journalist detentions have been reported, raising concerns about freedom of expression and public access to information.
