Ziauddin Yousafzai Warns of Dire Future for Pashtun Children Amid Rising Attacks on Schools

Ziauddin Yousafzai, human rights activist and father of Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai, has called on the Pakistani government to take urgent and serious measures to protect the future of Pashtun children, especially in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. He emphasized that insecurity and repeated attacks on schools directly threaten these children’s right to education.

According to him, Pashtun children face extensive challenges in education, insecurity, and various restrictions, and the Pakistani government must pay special attention to ensuring their right to education. Yousafzai warned that the continuation of the current situation seriously endangers the future of an entire generation.

Referring to the continuous attacks on schools and the unsafe environment in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he stated that this situation has created a fundamental obstacle to children’s access to quality education. He believes Pashtun children are grappling with security threats and educational barriers more than ever before.

Yousafzai stated, “Our children need books, not bombs; they need classrooms, not fear. Value education, value the future.” He added that education is a fundamental right for every child and no conditions should violate this right.

According to reports, literacy rates in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have fallen to very low levels, and some existing schools have been destroyed as a result of attacks by Pakistani military forces and armed groups, raising concerns about the educational future of children in the region.
