The Taliban administration has announced that a technical team from its Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has reviewed mining activities and the licenses issued for emerald mines in the Khonj and Priyan districts of Panjshir province. According to the administration, these mines currently provide employment for more than five thousand people.

Based on a statement published on the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum’s X (formerly Twitter) page, the delegation, led by Engineer Abdullah Haidari, Director General of Mining Exploration and Survey, traveled to Panjshir to closely evaluate the extraction processes and the performance of miners.

The purpose of this assessment was to measure compliance with professional mining standards, assess the application of technical and scientific principles in emerald extraction, and identify existing challenges in this sector. According to the source, the team monitored mining areas in Khonj and Priyan and also reviewed the status of issued licenses.

The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum added that members of the delegation visited professional mining offices and provided miners with necessary technical advice in various areas. Additionally, the concerns raised by miners were examined, and proposals were made to resolve them.

Panjshir province is considered one of the most important centers for emerald extraction in Afghanistan, and its mines play a significant role in creating local employment opportunities.
