Herat Marks Afghanistan’s 107th Independence Anniversary

Herat province on Wednesday marked Afghanistan’s 107th Independence Day with a ceremony in which participants said the country’s independence was the result of the struggle and sacrifices of the Afghan people, and stressed the need to protect its historical values and pass this legacy on to younger generations.
The event was held with the حضور of officials from Herat’s Department of Information and Culture, religious scholars, cultural figures and a number of residents. Speakers at the ceremony referred to the historical significance of 28 Asad as one of the important events in the Afghan people’s path to independence.
Mawlawi Atiqullah Azizi, head of Information and Culture in Herat, said at the ceremony that observing Independence Day is a tribute to the courage and sacrifices of the Afghan people in defending the country. He also said that the people of Afghanistan have stood up to major powers over the past century.
According to him, a number of Taliban administration leaders had also taken part in wars and resistance against Soviet and US forces at various times. His remarks came as the main focus of the ceremony was the commemoration of the independence anniversary and emphasis on preserving its historical values.
According to a news release from the Taliban administration’s Ministry of Information and Culture, Wakil Ahmad Mujahid and Ustad Syed Ahmad Qatali, both former mujahideen, also spoke at the event. They described the Afghan people’s victory against major powers as the result of resilience, determination and what they called “divine help.”
28 Asad is recognized in Afghanistan’s calendar as the country’s Independence Day, and the occasion is marked every year in parts of the country. The day is linked to historical events related to Afghanistan’s independence from British influence.
