491 Afghan Nationals Released from Pakistani Prisons and Returned Home

The Taliban’s Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation announced on Thursday that during the current week, 491 Afghan citizens were released from Pakistani prisons and returned to Afghanistan. According to the ministry, these individuals were detained due to lacking legal residency documents in Pakistan. Of the returnees, 379 entered Afghanistan through the Torkham border crossing in Nangarhar province, while 112 others crossed via Spin Boldak in Kandahar province. The ministry added that among these individuals were both families and single persons who had been held in prison for not possessing legal residency documents. After registration and receiving basic assistance, they have been transferred to their main residential areas. The ministry also recalled that on April 30, another 527 Afghan migrants were similarly released from Pakistani prisons and returned to the country. The process of detaining and deporting undocumented migrants has increased in recent months, raising concerns among migrant families.
