Solar Power System Activated for 500 Girls at School in Kunar, Afghanistan

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has activated a solar power system with a capacity of 8.8 kilowatts at the Mangol Girls’ School in Kunar province. With the launch of this system, approximately 500 female students now have access to stable electricity at this educational center.

According to released information, the classrooms in this school have been equipped with adequate lighting, enabling students to study in a brighter and more suitable environment. Additionally, air cooling systems, clean drinking water, and electricity-powered laboratories have also become available.

Kunar province, located in eastern Afghanistan, has faced numerous infrastructural challenges, including a lack of electricity in many of its areas. The use of solar energy in such regions can help improve educational and welfare conditions for students.

The UNDP stated that this initiative aims to support sustainable access to energy and strengthen educational infrastructure—an effort that could positively impact the quality of girls’ education in the province.
