Taliban Consul-General Meets UNHCR Head in Mashhad to Discuss Afghan Migrants’ Coordination Committee

Noormohammed Motawakel, the Taliban Consul-General in Mashhad, met with Dananjaya Bataray, head of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) office, to discuss establishing a tripartite coordination committee. During the meeting, a proposal was put forward to create a committee including representatives from the Office of Foreign Nationals and Migrants Affairs of Khorasan Razavi Province. The initiative aims to enhance coordination among responsible bodies to address the challenges faced by Afghan migrants. Both parties also exchanged views on economic challenges and issues related to the migrants’ identity documents and explored solutions to improve their situation. According to the information presented, the main focus of the talks was to facilitate administrative procedures and reduce the economic burden on migrant families. The meeting also underscored the necessity of expanding educational and health institutions specifically for migrants and strengthening financial support from international organizations. The UNHCR is considered a key entity in addressing refugee issues across the region.
