Afghanistan’s Taliban Ministry Signs $7.6 Million Contract for Ibek–Ruy Doab Road Construction

The Taliban-run Ministry of Public Works has announced the signing of a contract for the construction and major rehabilitation of the Ibek–Ruy Doab road in Samangan province with two construction companies. The project is valued at over 641.67 million Afghanis (approximately $7.6 million) and is expected to be completed within two years.

According to the ministry, the road stretches 20 kilometers and will be executed using the ‘design-build’ method, where design and construction are carried out simultaneously by the contracted companies. The route starts from the city of Ibek, the provincial capital of Samangan, and extends to the Ruy Doab district.

Published information indicates that the work commencement letter has been handed over to the responsible companies, who are obligated to complete the project’s initial survey and design within 75 days.

The Ibek–Ruy Doab road is considered a crucial transportation artery in Samangan. Officials from the Ministry of Public Works stated that upon completion, the project will facilitate easier travel for local residents, reduce transportation costs and time, and provide a foundation for the growth of local trade. Additionally, it is expected that people’s access to healthcare and education services will improve.
