Heavy Pakistani Forces Assault on Khas Kunar District Spurs Civilian Displacement

Local residents in Kunar province report that Pakistani forces have targeted the Khas Kunar district using heavy weaponry; this assault has forced several families in the Hijratabad camp and Shalidak area to abandon their homes. According to sources who spoke to the media, the sound of mortar strikes and heavy gunfire has heightened tensions in the region, leading residents to seek safer areas for fear of ongoing clashes. So far, no official details have been released regarding casualties or the extent of damage. The Taliban administration and Pakistani authorities have yet to publicly respond to the incident. This occurs amid repeated criticism from border area inhabitants about the lack of effective measures to protect civilians. Just a day prior, Pakistani rocket attacks on Asadabad city, the capital of Kunar, and Sarkano district resulted in at least seven deaths and approximately 75 injuries. The continuation of such incidents is raising concerns about the security situation in border areas and the safety of civilians.
