Taliban Signs $416,000 Agreement to Implement Natural Disaster Risk Reduction Projects

The National Disaster Preparedness Authority has announced the signing of an agreement worth over $416,000 with a non-governmental organization to carry out several natural disaster risk reduction projects in various provinces of the country.

According to the provided information, under this agreement, a protective wall will be constructed in the Batikot district of Nangarhar province, unstable rocks will be removed in multiple provinces, volunteer teams will be formed to survey vulnerable areas, and training programs will be conducted on disaster management and Geographic Information System (GIS).

This memorandum was signed in a formal ceremony between Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, the Director General of the Disaster Preparedness Authority under the Taliban administration, and Habibur Rahman Rahman, the head of the World Social Services Institute in Asia.

During the ceremony, Mullah Turabi emphasized strengthening local capacities as an effective strategy for reducing natural disaster risks and stressed the need for greater attention to this sector. He highlighted the importance of education and mobilization of local forces for better management of natural events.

Meanwhile, the head of the World Social Services Institute in Asia provided information about the ongoing projects and assured that the mentioned programs would be implemented transparently and within the specified timeframe.
