Gas Contract Extended for Another Decade to Sustain 40MW Power Production in Jawzjan

Bayat Power Company has extended its natural gas purchase and sale agreement with Afghan Gas Company for another ten years, enabling the continued production of 40 megawatts of electricity in Jawzjan province. The electricity generated is distributed to consumers through Afghanistan’s Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS).

Under this contract, Bayat Power will continue to use natural gas to generate electricity, which will be distributed to meet citizens’ needs and support the growth of the country’s industrial sectors. Afghan Gas officials in Jawzjan have committed to consistently supplying the required gas for this project.

Akhtar Mohammad Mansoor, head of Afghan Gas Company in Jawzjan, emphasized that continuous gas production is a top priority for the success of the project. He noted that utilizing domestic gas resources plays a vital role in strengthening the country’s energy self-sufficiency.

Meanwhile, Haji Mohammad Ismail, Deputy General Manager of Bayat Power, stated that with the extension of this contract, the electricity production from natural gas in Sheberghan will continue for another decade. He added that the company has been producing 40 megawatts of electricity in Jawzjan for several years now, with distribution managed through DABS.

Founded over four decades ago, Bayat Power is recognized as Afghanistan’s first private company to produce electricity from natural gas. Its power plant in Jawzjan operates with advanced gas turbines and produces more than 300 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.

Energy sector experts consider such contract renewals a significant step in enhancing domestic energy production, reducing reliance on external resources, and supporting the country’s economic infrastructure.
