Opposition Fronts Claim 19 Attacks in 10 Days Amid Taliban Silence
Opposition military fronts claim to have carried out 19 attacks across nine provinces of Afghanistan from August 8 to 18, resulting in the deaths of 33 Taliban members and injuries to 34 others. These claims come as the Taliban administration continues to assert its comprehensive governance.
According to the Freedom Front, it conducted seven attacks in Faryab, Nangarhar, Badakhshan, and Kunduz provinces, killing 16 Taliban fighters and injuring 19. The front also claimed to have captured several Taliban checkpoints in Badakhshan.
The United Front, led by Samia Sadat, stated that over the past 10 days it launched 10 attacks in Baghlan, Faryab, Kandahar, Helmand, Badghis, Badakhshan, and Ghor provinces, killing 15 Taliban members and wounding 15 others. The Resistance Front also reported the killing of two Taliban members in an attack in Herat, while the military wing of the Green Trend, led by Amrullah Saleh, claimed to have attacked a Taliban fuel convoy in Salang.
The Taliban administration has only confirmed clashes in the Zibak and Yaftal districts of Badakhshan, rejecting claims of capturing checkpoints and casualties or remaining silent on these issues. Mohammad Ismail Aznawi, the Taliban-appointed governor of Badakhshan, said that “internal and external enemies” are unable to undermine their rule.
Previously, Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Taliban administration, stated that no armed opposition groups exist in Afghanistan and dismissed the activity of these fronts as limited to social media. However, the recent claims by opposition fronts have once again highlighted questions regarding the Taliban’s security control across various provinces.
