Taliban’s Acting Water Minister Discusses Kajaki Dam Expansion with Turkish Companies

The acting Minister of Water and Energy in the Taliban administration met with officials from 77 Turkish companies to discuss the expansion of the Kajaki Dam, increasing electricity production, and water resource management.
According to a statement released by the ministry, Mullah Mohammad Yunus Akhundzada emphasized the importance of developing the Kajaki Dam in Helmand province during the meeting. He described it as crucial for boosting electricity generation capacity and improving water management in southern regions of the country. The Kajaki Dam is considered one of Afghanistan’s key infrastructure projects, playing a vital role in electricity supply and regulating agricultural water.
The statement also noted that both parties discussed ongoing projects and new investment plans. However, details regarding the amount of investment, project timelines, and sources of funding were not disclosed—a matter that has frequently been questioned in major infrastructure projects under the Taliban administration.
During the meeting, Suleyman Guliyev invited the acting Minister of Water and Energy to participate in the inauguration ceremony of development works for the “Orphan’s Bridge” cement project. No further information has been released about the legal and practical framework of these collaborations.
