214 Dead in Recent Floods Across Afghanistan

The Department of Disaster Preparedness has reported that from April 6 to the present, severe floods and heavy rains across various parts of the country have claimed the lives of 214 individuals, with an additional 300 injured. These figures represent the latest toll from natural disasters in recent weeks.

Mohammad Yousuf Hamid, spokesperson for the department, stated that beyond the human casualties, hundreds of residential homes have been either partially or completely destroyed. He noted that the floods have caused extensive damage to residents in the affected areas.

Hamid further added that agricultural lands in several provinces have been lost and farmers’ crops destroyed. This situation has heightened concerns about the economic and livelihood consequences for the affected families.

Afghanistan faces devastating floods every rainy season, events that, due to a lack of adequate infrastructure and ineffective water management systems, result in significant human and financial losses.
