Taliban Administration Faces Challenges in Oil and Gas Transit

Abdul Latif Nazari, Technical Deputy of the Ministry of Economy under the Taliban administration, has announced that the process of transporting oil and gas, which was previously supplied from neighboring countries including Iran, is currently facing transit route challenges.

According to him, these problems mainly concern the transit route, and efforts to manage and resolve them are underway. He did not provide further details regarding the exact nature of these challenges.

Nazari added that Afghanistan, to mitigate the effects of this situation, is seeking to expand trade and strengthen economic cooperation with Central Asian countries. Central Asia is considered one of the crucial energy supply routes for Afghanistan, and developing relations with this region could have an impact on the domestic market.

While the Taliban administration speaks of efforts to diversify energy import sources, experts have consistently emphasized that heavy reliance on energy imports makes the country’s economy vulnerable to regional developments and transit issues—a matter that requires transparent planning and sustainable solutions.
