Panshir Emerald Sales Reach $32 Million in One Year

Officials from the Panshir Mining and Petroleum Directorate have announced that over the past year, more than 111,000 carats of emeralds extracted from the province’s mines have been sold for nearly $32 million. According to the directorate, the sales process was conducted through bidding and involved both domestic and foreign traders.

The emeralds were mined from the districts of Hissa Awal and Paryan, areas considered among the main emerald sources in the country. Historically, Panshir has been known as one of Afghanistan’s most important centers for high-quality emerald production.

However, the Taliban administration has so far not provided details on how the revenues are being spent or how the extraction and sales processes are supervised. Mining experts have consistently emphasized the need for transparency in contracts and revenue usage to ensure these resources are managed responsibly and benefit the people.
