National Environmental Protection Agency Highlights Private Sector Role in Environmental Conservation

The Director General of the National Environmental Protection Agency emphasized the necessity of private sector, social institutions, and citizen participation in environmental protection during a meeting with the Deputy Director of Roshan Telecommunications Company. The agency stated that without broad coordination among different sectors, environmental programs cannot be effectively implemented.

According to the agency’s newsletter, the two sides discussed expanding cooperation in environmental protection, developing green spaces, implementing tree-planting programs, and raising public awareness. The main focus of the meeting was on establishing joint mechanisms to execute sustainable programs.

Seyed Ezzatollah Hashemi, Director General of the National Environmental Protection Agency, stated that protecting the environment is not solely the responsibility of government agencies but requires practical coordination among relevant departments, private companies, and the public. He appreciated Roshan’s previous cooperation and called for strengthening these collaborations in the future.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Director of Roshan Telecommunications Company presented a report on the company’s environmental protection activities and pledged that it will continue to play an active role in tree-planting programs and other related environmental protection initiatives.

Environmental experts consistently stress that due to climate change, consecutive droughts, and reduced vegetation cover, Afghanistan now more than ever needs coordinated and sustainable programs in this sector—programs that cannot succeed without extensive participation from the private sector and society.
