Taliban Administration Launches Two Major Electricity Projects in Nangarhar

The Taliban administration has completed and handed over two major electricity projects in Nangarhar province aimed at supplying and strengthening the power grid for local residents. These projects include the reinforcement of the electricity network in District Six of Jalalabad city, benefiting over 11,000 consumers, as well as the provision of electricity to 3,400 families in the Sarkrod district of Nangarhar.
According to officials from Afghanistan’s electricity company under Taliban control, these initiatives represent steps toward improving power supply in Nangarhar, although core issues such as frequent outages and poor energy quality persist. Local authorities and people’s representatives have welcomed the projects while emphasizing the need for further expansion of the power networks.
However, with the return of internally displaced persons to Nangarhar, the pressure on the electricity networks has increased, requiring serious attention and comprehensive investment. Some Taliban officials in the electricity sector have called on residents and businesses to cooperate by paying their electricity bills on time, yet significant challenges and limitations remain in providing service to citizens.
Nangarhar’s provincial representatives and local elders have warned that without proper management and infrastructure upgrades, such showcase projects cannot alleviate the growing strain on the power grid or deliver satisfactory electricity services to the people. This comes amid ongoing struggles faced by Nangarhar’s population with prolonged power outages and low energy quality.
The Afghanistan electricity company states that it currently has programs to develop and strengthen power networks nationwide. However, insufficient resources, mismanagement, and Taliban-imposed restrictions have hindered the ability to meet the broad energy needs of the population.
