Kunduz provincial officials have announced that gold extraction operations have begun in the Sirak Be-Tal and Taqib Qabad areas of Qala-e-Zal district. The project, which is being carried out with a $20 million investment, is considered one of the district’s major mining projects, according to officials from the Kunduz provincial mines department.
The Kunduz mines department says the start of the operation will create job opportunities for hundreds of people in the area. The project’s contracting company has also allocated $200,000 for road construction and some development activities in Qala-e-Zal district.
Several local residents have welcomed the launch of the project and hope that the creation of jobs for young people and improvements in basic infrastructure will raise the economic situation of families. They stressed that investment and the creation of employment opportunities can play an important role in improving the living conditions of people in the area.
However, concerns remain over the environmental impact and the management of the project, and officials have so far not provided a clear response. Transparency in the implementation of the project and ensuring fair access for residents to job opportunities have also been emphasized.
