Zalmay Khalilzad: China’s bid to dominate Asia has strengthened US-India strategic ties

Zalmay Khalilzad, the former US special envoy for Afghanistan reconciliation, said on his personal account on the social media platform X that China’s efforts to dominate Asia and become the world’s leading power are the main factor strengthening strategic relations between the United States and India.

In a post, he referred to recent remarks by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who said Washington and New Delhi are completely aligned on the key issues of the 21st century.

Khalilzad added that China’s aspiration to attain the position of the world’s pre-eminent power is a shared threat to the United States and India, and that this is the reason for the two countries drawing closer in the strategic sphere.
