Fazl-ur-Rehman says Pakistan policies are hurting economy and regional ties

Maulana Fazlur Rehman, leader of Pakistan’s Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, strongly criticised the country’s government and military policies, saying they had led to the closure of western borders with Afghanistan, the suspension of trade, and damage to business and livelihoods.
He added that China had lost confidence in Pakistan and described the imposition of emergency rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a move to control mineral resources and create conditions for American investment.
Fazlur Rehman asked why foreign investors should be attracted to Afghanistan while Pakistani traders are taking their capital out of the country.
He stressed the need for security, transparency in agreements and the rule of law as essential conditions for attracting investment, and called on Pakistani officials to answer for the country’s economic situation.
The political leader also said China and Russia have concerns about the presence of foreign forces in the region and described Pakistan’s current policies as unacceptable to those countries.
