Sweden gives $1.2 million to Afghanistan humanitarian fund

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has said Sweden has contributed 10 million kronor, equivalent to $1.2 million, to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund.

OCHA wrote on X on Thursday, 23 October, that the donation is intended to strengthen joint efforts to address Afghanistan’s humanitarian needs.

The contribution comes as humanitarian needs in Afghanistan remain vast. The UN Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Food Programme have warned that 19.2 million people in Afghanistan are expected to face acute food insecurity this winter.

The UN humanitarian coordination office thanked Sweden for its continued solidarity and said joint cooperation to address the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan is important.
