Sources: Russia’s foreign intelligence chief visits Afghanistan on official trip

Sources say Sergei Naryshkin, head of Russia’s foreign intelligence service, has arrived in Afghanistan on an official visit and met with Mawlawi Abdul Haq Wasiq, head of the Taliban administration’s intelligence agency.

According to these sources, the two sides discussed important issues during the meeting, but no details of those issues or the length of Naryshkin’s stay in Afghanistan have been disclosed.

The visit comes as security and political ties between Russia and the Taliban administration have drawn attention in recent years, though no further information has yet been released about the specific purpose of the meeting.
