UN Envoy Deputy Calls for Halt to Israeli Strikes on Syria

The UN deputy envoy for Syria called at a Security Council meeting for an end to Israeli attacks, particularly in southern Syria, and stressed the need to protect the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The UN official said the 1974 disengagement agreement must be respected. He made the appeal following the UN secretary-general’s emphasis on respecting the agreement and Syria’s sovereignty.

The UN deputy special envoy also pointed to the situation in Syria, particularly in Suwayda province, and stressed the need to begin internal dialogue to overcome the current challenges.

Ibrahim Alalbi, Syria’s representative to the United Nations, also said the consequences of war and Israeli attacks should not be allowed to erase Syria’s achievements.
