Pakistan’s Fazlur Rehman calls government illegitimate, accuses it of election fraud

Maulana Fazlur Rehman, leader of Pakistan’s Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam party, has said he does not consider the country’s current government legitimate and describes it as the result of “election fraud.”

He also accused the Pakistani government of failing to fight terrorism, saying its record in curbing insecurity is not defensible.

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam is regarded as one of Pakistan’s influential religious parties, and Fazlur Rehman has in recent years been a vocal critic of the country’s electoral processes and power structure.
