Kabul to host banking conference on money transfers and digital services

The Afghanistan Banks Association says its banking conference will be held in Kabul later this month, where ways to make money transfers easier and expand digital services will be discussed.

Najibullah Amiri, chief executive of the Afghanistan Banks Association, said the conference is being organised in coordination with the Central Bank of Afghanistan and private banks. Improving banking services, exploring ways to create job opportunities, coordination with the private sector and promoting Islamic banking are among the other topics on the agenda.

According to Amiri, electronic and digital banking will also be discussed at the meeting. He said these services make it easier for people to access banking services and that Afghanistan should make progress in this area.

According to the association, the country’s commercial banks, several ministries including the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and the Ministry of Finance, the private sector and international partners including the World Bank and UNAMA will take part in the conference. A panel discussion will also be held on making money transfers easier, and coordination with foreign banks will be among the issues under discussion.

There are currently 11 banks operating across the country, and their activities are regulated by the Central Bank of Afghanistan. After the collapse of the republican system in August 2021, Afghanistan’s banking services faced challenges; however, according to the report, these services have now improved significantly.
