Russian Diplomat Says European Officials Seek Direct Confrontation With Russia

Rodion Miroshnik, Russia’s ambassador-at-large for the Foreign Ministry, has accused European officials of trying to draw their countries and the European Union into direct confrontation with Russia. He described the trend as threatening and said European leaders are repeatedly escalating tensions instead of seeking a peaceful solution.
Miroshnik made the remarks in response to EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas’s proposal to transfer interceptor missiles from member states’ air defence systems to Ukraine. In an interview with RIA Novosti, the Russian official said European officials are trying to drag their countries and the entire bloc into confrontation with Russia.
He also accused Western countries supporting Ukraine of applying double standards on nuclear safety, claiming that despite their membership in relevant international mechanisms, they are ignoring some of their international obligations and agreements.
