Taliban Say Four Arrested in Badakhshan Over Drug Trafficking

The Taliban administration says four people have been arrested in Badakhshan province on suspicion of drug trafficking, and that 130 kilograms of narcotics and two weapons were seized from them.

Bakhtar News Agency, a media outlet controlled by the Taliban administration, reported on Saturday, 4 Mizan, that the individuals were arrested in the areas of Tishkan district. The Taliban administration’s Ministry of Interior also said the men were detained after being identified on drug trafficking charges.

The incident comes as drug trafficking and production remain among Afghanistan’s major challenges, exposing large numbers of people to addiction every year.

The United Nations has also repeatedly stressed the need to continue supporting Afghanistan in the prevention, treatment and recovery of people affected by addiction. Tishkan district is located in Badakhshan province in northeastern Afghanistan.
