Pakistan and Uzbekistan discuss advancing Afghanistan railway project
Pakistan’s ambassador to Uzbekistan has said he discussed strengthening regional connectivity and, specifically, the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan railway project with Uzbekistan’s First Deputy Foreign Minister, Bakhromjon Aloev.
According to him, the meeting also covered the expansion of trade, investment and economic cooperation, and both sides stressed continued efforts to raise bilateral trade to $2 billion.
The Pakistani ambassador did not provide further details on the timeline or practical progress of the project. It was also not clear what was discussed regarding any implementation or financing obstacles to the railway.
The Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan railway project is considered one of the region’s key transit initiatives, aimed at linking Central Asia with Pakistan’s ports through Afghanistan.
