Achakzai Condemns US and European Policies on Afghanistan

Makhdoom Khan Achakzai, leader of Pakistan’s Pashtunkhwa National Awami Party, has sharply criticised US and European policies toward Afghanistan and Iraq, saying these approaches have spread humanitarian crisis and distrust in those countries rather than ensuring stability.

He said the people of Afghanistan and Iraq have paid the highest price as a result of decisions, in his words, taken in Western capitals and based on geopolitical interests. According to Achakzai, these policies have made Afghanistan’s social and political structures more vulnerable and widened the scope of instability.

Achakzai also said global powers, over two decades of war and turmoil, created the conditions for the killing of millions of people, but have not accepted responsibility for the human consequences of these wars. He stressed that the US and Europe have not applied human rights standards consistently and equally.

According to him, the West speaks of human rights only when it does not conflict with its interests. He added that this double standard has caused the people of Afghanistan and Iraq to pay a heavy price in recent years.

The Pakistani politician warned that the continuation of this approach would deepen public distrust and could pave the way for continued violence and instability in vulnerable countries. He called for the policies of major powers to be judged by the same fair human rights standards.

Afghanistan has been the scene of war, foreign intervention and successive humanitarian crises for more than two decades, a situation that still casts a shadow over the lives of millions of families in the country.
