Drone Hits Train Carrying European Officials Near Poland Border

Media reports say a passenger train carrying a number of European officials, including former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, was hit by a drone attack near the border with Poland.

Euronews, citing Ukraine’s state railway company, reported that the incident took place on Sunday in the Volyn region and that a Russian drone struck the train’s locomotive. According to the company, the site of the incident was about two kilometres from the Polish border.

Reports say no casualties are believed to have been caused by the attack. However, the targeting of a train carrying senior European officials near the Polish border has turned the incident into a sensitive security matter.

In a post on its Telegram channel, Ukraine’s railway company said the country’s rail network had come under attack for a second consecutive day. It added that the threat-monitoring team identified the risk in time, and the train crew took the necessary safety measures to protect passengers and staff before the situation worsened.

Volyn is located in western Ukraine and borders Poland, a region that, because of its proximity to one of the most important border crossings, is considered one of the key routes for movement and transport in Ukraine.
