Taliban envoy in Malaysia discusses expanding bilateral ties

Afghanistan’s embassy in Malaysia says Naqibullah Ahmadi, the acting head of its mission, has discussed expanding bilateral relations with Johari bin Abdul, speaker of the Malaysian House of Representatives.

According to Afghanistan’s embassy in Malaysia, the meeting covered issues including the Taliban administration’s foreign policy, Afghanistan’s engagement with regional countries and the international community, the security situation, economic developments and investment opportunities in Afghanistan.

The Afghan embassy in Malaysia also said cooperation in various sectors and the facilitation of travel by officials, traders and tourists between the two countries were among the main topics of the talks.

Malaysia is a Southeast Asian country, and Kabul and Kuala Lumpur have had diplomatic relations in recent years. However, the level and framework of countries’ engagement with the Taliban administration after its return to power remains one of the key issues in Afghanistan’s foreign relations.
