Trump Envoys Head to Ukraine After Meeting Putin in Moscow
Steve Witkoff, the U.S. president’s special envoy, and Jared Kushner, Donald Trump’s son-in-law, have travelled to Ukraine to hold talks with Ukrainian officials after meeting Vladimir Putin in Moscow. Media outlets have described the trip as the next stage of Washington’s diplomatic mission linked to the war in Ukraine.
According to a report by RT, citing news sources, the two U.S. officials entered the city of Rzeszow in Poland on their way to Ukraine. The city is located in southeastern Poland, near the Ukrainian border, and is considered one of the main routes for transport and logistical support related to Ukraine.
Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian president, said that Putin’s more than three-hour talks with Witkoff and Kushner were “constructive” and “very frank.” According to him, the two U.S. envoys pledged to take Putin’s assessments of a solution to the Ukraine conflict into account in their talks in Kyiv.
Ushakov also said Putin stressed in the meeting that he was ready for constructive dialogue with the United States on resolving the Ukraine conflict. He added that the Russian president insisted on addressing what he called the “root causes” of the conflict.
The Russian president’s aide did not provide details of the proposals discussed, but said Witkoff and Kushner set out their views on how to end the war in Ukraine. The war in Ukraine began in February 2022 with Russia’s full-scale invasion, and since then Poland, especially the city of Rzeszow, has become one of the main hubs for travel and support linked to Ukraine.
