Bosnian police detain 96 migrants, including 18 Afghan nationals, in border crossing attempts
Police in Bosnia and Herzegovina have announced the detention of 96 asylum seekers, including 18 Afghan nationals, during two separate attempts to cross the country’s border illegally.
According to Sarayvo Times, the incident took place on Wednesday, Sept. 2, in the town of Bistritsa, and the operation was carried out in cooperation with the Interior Ministry of Republika Srpska.
According to the report, in the first case, on Wednesday afternoon, police stopped 63 people, among them 40 Pakistani nationals and 23 Bangladeshi nationals.
In the second case, 33 more people were detained later that day. According to Bosnian and Herzegovinian police, the group included 18 Afghan nationals, 13 Pakistani nationals and two other nationals.
Police in Bosnia and Herzegovina said the investigation into these cases is continuing.
In recent years, Bosnia and Herzegovina has been one of the routes used by asylum seekers seeking to reach European countries, and some migrants try to use this route to reach the borders of the European Union.
