Iran calls on global bodies to condemn US attack on Larak Island
Iran’s Foreign Ministry said that following a US military attack on parts of Larak Island, the country’s armed forces targeted US military bases in Jordan. In a statement, the ministry said the move was carried out in response to Sunday evening’s attack and within the framework of the country’s “inherent right to legitimate self-defence.”
According to Iran’s Foreign Ministry, several defenders and residents of the country were killed and wounded in the attack on Larak, and damage was also caused to public and private property. The ministry described the attack as a violation of Iran’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry also called on the United Nations Security Council and the UN secretary-general to fulfil their responsibilities to maintain international peace and security in response to what it called “US military aggression.” It said the attack on Larak violated Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the UN Charter.
The ministry further blamed the US and Israel for instability in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, saying tensions began with an attack on Iran on Feb. 28, 2026, and had continued over the past six months through measures including a naval blockade. The Iranian Foreign Ministry also warned that the country’s armed forces would respond to any new military attack.
Larak Island is located near the Strait of Hormuz, a waterway considered one of the region’s key shipping and energy transport routes. For this reason, any security incident in the area is usually accompanied by concerns over maritime traffic and regional stability.
