Flash Flood in Nepal Buries Villages in Mud

Aerial images from the Devighat Dham area in Nuwakot district, Nepal, show that the flash flood on Aug. 26 buried large parts of riverside residential areas under mud.

According to reports, more than 1,000 people remain missing, including hundreds of foreign tourists. The scale of the damage in the published images has been described as extensive.

Nepali authorities have warned that there is a risk of another wave of flooding as well as landslides. For this reason, rescue operations in some areas have been temporarily suspended.

Nuwakot district is among Nepal’s mountainous regions, where areas typically face the risk of flooding and landslides during the rainy season.
