Trump’s net approval turns negative in 47 US states ahead of elections
A US media outlet has reported that Donald Trump’s net approval rating is negative in 47 of the country’s 50 states ahead of the congressional midterm elections, a development that could cast a shadow over the upcoming races.
According to MS Now, formerly known as MSNBC, Trump’s decline in popularity has also been notable in battleground states. The outlet said that in all states where this year’s US Senate contests are considered close and decisive, Trump’s net approval rating is negative.
At the same time, a previous Reuters report said public support in the United States for continuing the war with Iran has fallen. According to a joint Reuters-Ipsos poll, Americans’ support for the ongoing war has dropped to 31 percent, down from 37 percent in March and 34 percent at the start of this month.
Reuters said the decline was largely attributed to weakening Republican support for continuing the war. Among Trump supporters, 69 percent backed continued military operations, compared with 77 percent in March.
The report also said concerns are growing over the political consequences of the war for Trump, and that 83 percent of Americans believe the conflict will last a long time. The US congressional midterm elections are one of the country’s major political events and are usually seen as an indicator of the political standing of the incumbent president.
