Afghan Evac Calls for Resumption of U.S. Visa Review for Afghan Applicants

Afghan Evac has called on the U.S. government to restart the review of Afghan applicants’ cases for special immigration visas after a U.S. court lifted a ban on issuing immigrant visas to citizens of 75 countries.

Sean Vandeiver, the head of Afghan Evac, said in a statement on Sunday that the U.S. State Department should move forward with cases that, under the court ruling, must be reviewed again. He also stressed the need to establish a clear process for re-examining these cases.

The request came after a court in the United States lifted the ban on issuing immigrant visas to nationals of 75 countries. Afghan Evac says the U.S. government should include former collaborators of the U.S. military and institutions, who have already received visas, on the exemption list so they can enter the United States.

The organization has also called on the U.S. Congress to finalize the process for reviewing the cases of former U.S. collaborators in Afghanistan and their family members who are still waiting to enter the United States. The U.S. special immigrant visa is intended for some people who worked with U.S. forces and institutions in Afghanistan.
