Taliban Administration Signs New Agreement for Mineral Exploration with Private Company
The Taliban administration announced that its Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has signed a memorandum of understanding for mineral surveying and exploration with a private company, as part of the process to delegate exploration activities to the private sector.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, the document was signed by Engineer Abdullah Haidari, Director General of Survey and Exploration, and Akram Qalandarov, head of the private company “Timur Sena,” in the presence of several senior officials from the ministry.
Taliban officials stated that this memorandum contains nine articles and aims to develop exploration activities and identify the country’s mineral reserves. They claim that the mentioned company will carry out metal mineral surveying and exploration programs over the next year according to plans set by the ministry.
The signing of this agreement comes amid ongoing discussions about mineral resources, which are considered public assets, focusing on the management approach, contract transparency, and the public’s share of revenues—key issues in Afghanistan’s economic sector. The Taliban’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has previously emphasized attracting private sector participation in mining projects.
