Head of Badakhshan Information and Culture Department Killed in Armed Attack

Engineer Zabihullah Amiri, the head of the Information and Culture Department of Badakhshan province, was shot and killed this morning (Tuesday, July 28) while on his way to work along the Baharak-Fayzabad district route. This incident has again raised concerns about the security situation in the province.
Ehsanullah Kamgar, spokesperson for Badakhshan police command, confirmed that the attack was carried out by two armed motorcycle riders. According to him, during the clash, one of the assailants was killed by Amiri’s bodyguards.
Kamgar added that security forces’ efforts to identify and arrest the other perpetrators are ongoing.
So far, the motive behind the attack and the identities of those responsible have not been officially announced, and no individual or group has claimed responsibility. Badakhshan, located in the northeast of the country, has also experienced sporadic security incidents in past years.
