Taliban Urges Uzbekistan to Invest in Afghanistan’s Agriculture Sector
The Taliban administration has called on Uzbekistan to invest in Afghanistan’s agricultural sector. The acting Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock of the Taliban government met with Jamshed Khodjaev, Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister, and invited the Uzbek government and businessmen to invest in Afghanistan’s agriculture, livestock, and irrigation projects.
The Taliban Ministry of Agriculture announced on Monday, July 26, that the meeting took place in Kabul, during which both sides discussed the implementation of joint agricultural projects, investment opportunities, and expanding cooperation in this sector.
According to the ministry, Attaullah Omari emphasized in the meeting that Afghanistan holds significant investment potential in agriculture and irrigation and called for a more active role from Uzbekistan’s government and private sector in these areas.
Based on a statement from the Taliban administration, Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister also expressed his country’s readiness to invest in the production and processing of agricultural products and the execution of joint projects. Jamshed Khodjaev arrived in Kabul on Saturday, July 24.
The Taliban administration stated that the purpose of this visit was to meet with Taliban officials, engage with private sector actors, and participate in a bilateral trade forum between the two countries. Previously, both sides have also discussed expanding cooperation in transit, trade, and banking relations.
Uzbekistan is among the countries that have maintained economic ties with Kabul since the Taliban’s return to power in August 2021, although it has not formally recognized the Taliban government. In recent months, the Taliban have sought to attract investment and develop trade relations through cooperation with Central Asian countries.
