UNAMA Warns of Rising Threats Against Journalists Worldwide

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has expressed concern over the global media situation, stating that increasing threats against journalists and pressure on independent media have put freedom of information at risk.

On Monday, UNAMA emphasized in a statement that the spread of misinformation and disinformation, heightened censorship, attacks on journalists, and reduced support for independent media are major challenges limiting professional media activities worldwide.

Referring to a recent UNESCO report, the organization highlighted that free and independent media play a key role in monitoring government actions, providing citizens with reliable information, and strengthening public trust.

According to UNAMA, independent journalism is not limited to news reporting but also plays a crucial role in promoting transparency, combating corruption, and improving crisis management.
